Since 2006 NFDS has had a permanent presence in Mozambique, by providing Fisheries MCS experts assigned to the Ministry of Fisheries to assist in the coordination, planning, delivery and training to implement the National MCS strategy.

This assistance falls under the Fisheries Cooperation Programme between Mozambique and Norway. Mozambique is also a key player in other projects that NFDS is or has been involved in, for example FISH-i Africa. Mozambique is also to be the host country for the SADC Regional Fisheries MSC Coordination Centre (MCSCC). This regional centre’s mission will be to coordinate fisheries MCS and enforcement activities, set up a platform for the implementation of a regional Patrol Plan, support capacity building for implementation of the SADC Protocol on Fisheries and development of training modules. NFDS carried out a feasibility study, which was the first step of the process of establishing this Centre.
