African Union expert consultative meeting for fisheries and aquaculture

May 2015 – Sandy Davies (NFDS Technical Director) was in Kampala, Uganda as a member of the African Union and NEPAD Agency Monitoring, Control and Coordination (MCS) Working Group to participate in an expert consultative meeting with the overall objective to formulate criteria and indicators to facilitate the alignment of the policy Framework and Reform Strategy for Fisheries and Aquaculture with national and regional policies. The reform policy was endorsed at the Summit of African Heads of States and Governments, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, in June 2014, as a blue print for African fisheries and Aquaculture development. Stop Illegal Fishing, is the Coordinator of the MCS Working Group, the Group worked over three days to identify indicators and criteria that can be used as a tracking tool for alignment of national and regional fisheries and aquaculture policies with the reform policy.
