West Africa Task Force meets in Ghana

April 2016 - Per Erik Bergh (MD), Sandy Davies (Technical Director) Sally Frankcom (Communications Officer) and Ariella d’Andrea (Legal Expert) were in Accra, Ghana providing technical assistance at the 2nd West Africa Task Force meeting on 11-12 April 2016.

The six Task Force member countries of Benin, Côte D’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Togo attended the meeting and, building on existing commitments for information sharing within the Fisheries Committee for West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC), made significant commitments to share information on fishing vessels licensed by Task Force countries.

Mr. Seraphin Dedi, Secretary General of Fisheries Committee for West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) commented that ‘the West Africa Task Force is proving to be a galvanising force in the fight against IUU fishing in our region.  With the region working together to share information we are making it more and more difficult for the illegal operators to get away with breaking the rules and breaking our laws.’

The Coordination Team of the project comprises of the FCWC Secretariat, Trygg Mat TrackingStop Illegal Fishing and NFDS.
