Côte d’Ivoire: interagency meeting focus on PSMA

February 2020 — Per Erik Bergh (CEO) and Mathew Markides (Legal and Research Officer) represented Stop Illegal Fishing at the Côte d’Ivoire West Africa Task Force National Working Group meeting, held in Abidjan on 20-21 February 2020.The meeting brought together representatives from 11 agencies.

Per Erik Bergh commented, “Interagency meetings are a vital means of building trust and communications between fisheries and other national agencies. This will result in tangible improvements to the flow of information, and the development of more effective procedures. Whilst the implementation of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA) provided a useful focus for discussions this work will benefit all aspects of monitoring, control and surveillance.”

The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources, with technical support provided by the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) and the West Africa Task Force (WATF) technical team – Trygg Mat Tracking and Stop Illegal Fishing.
