Implementing Africa’s Maritime Security Strategies - Conference Pretoria May 2015

May 2015 – Per Erik Bergh (NFDS Managing Director) was in Pretoria for the Conference focusing on how to implement Africa’s maritime strategies.  The 2014 African Integrated Maritime Strategy (AIMS-2050) anchored in the African Union was triggered by the increasing piracy trends both in East and West Africa but it also goes well beyond a simple counter piracy agenda.  The conference discussed issues threatening the African blue economy with focus on security, safety and maritime crime.  Fisheries crime plays an important role within this agenda and Stop Illegal Fishing were present to raise awareness about existing and potential crime taking place within the fishing industry.

The conference was facilitated by Wilton Park – a UK forum for global change – www.wiltonpark.org.uk
