SADC capacity development workshop on catch documentation schemes

November 2018 — Sandy Davies (Technical Director) and Mark Ssemakula (Project Officer) supported a two-day capacity building workshop on catch documentation schemes (CDSs) with specific focus on the European Union Regulation to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, held in Swakopmund, Namibia.

The SADC workshop was held with support from the WWF through their Norad funded, project entitled “Sustainable Fisheries – Supporting Livelihoods, Equity, and Ecosystems in South Western Indian Ocean (SWIO) Communities”.

The workshop was attended by 27 delegates including representatives from 14 of the 16 SADC Member States; Angola, Botswana, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania (URT) and Zimbabwe.  They were supported by representatives from the SADC Secretariat, the Namibian Fisheries Observer Agency (FOA), the Confederation of Namibian Fishing Associations, WWF (European and Mozambican offices) and SIF.
