The 32nd Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI)

July 2016 - Sandy Davies (Technical Director), Kristin von Kistowski (Senior Advisor) and Sally Frankcom (Communications Officer) attended the 32nd Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) at the FAO Headquarters in Rome Italy from 11-15th July 2016.

Delegates celebrated the coming into force of the 2009 FAO Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.

Sandy Davies, on behalf of Stop Illegal Fishing, was supporting the coordination of the ‘African Voice’ in collaboration with the NEPAD Agency and AU-IBAR.

Speaking at the end of the meeting Ms Davies commented ‘there is a real sense of agreed priority action amongst the COFI delegations, particularly within the IUU arena – its encouraging to see progress being made on PSMA and also on the Global Record of Fishing Vessels which it is hoped, will make identification of fishing vessels easier.’

members of the NFDS team were in London for the 9th International Forum on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing at Chatham House.
