David Boyer

Dave’s key area of expertise is in marine sciences, including stock assessment, fish surveys, marine ecology and oceanography. He worked for 20 years in natural sciences in Namibia, mostly in the marine sector.

For the past decade he has worked as a consultant, initially as a fish survey practitioner, providing training and leading surveys in various parts of the world; more recently he has become increasingly involved in fisheries management and policy. Dave is a regular consultant on the NFDS team.

Citizenship: British.

Qualifications: MSc Zoology (1988), University of Natal, South Africa. BSc Hons. Agric. (1977), University of London.

Relevant experience: Dave has broad experience in research project management and fisheries management and policy issues from a number of countries. He has been involved in developing a number of fisheries management plans, as well as reviewing various international management and research programmes. With more than 25 years of experience as a fisheries scientist, including heading up the commercial fisheries research programme in Namibia for a number of years and participating in over 100 surveys, mostly as scientific leader, Dave provides scientific guidance in many of our projects.
