NFDS active in Ghana and West Africa Task Force.

October 2023 – Per Erik Bergh (CEO and Managing Director), JD Kotze (Investigator) and Andréa Durighello (Fisheries Expert) travelled to Tema, Ghana to run a training workshop for the West Africa Force (WATF) of the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) and to conduct research into a sustainability plan for the FCWC Regional Monitoring, Control and Surveillance Centre (RMCSC).

The workshop developed SOPs on procedures related to MCS of foreign fishing vessels in Ghana’s EEZ, to test them on site to ensure their feasibility for MCS officers and adapt them to make them more practicable. Eventually, the objective will be to institutionalize those SOPs as a formal process to be followed by MCS officers in Ghana.
