Third MCSCC Operational Task Force and Board of Director meetings take place in Maputo
October 2025 — Per Erik Bergh (CEO and Managing Director), Sandy Davies (Senior Fisheries and Environment Director), Noa Senete (MCS Expert), Regina Dithapo (Communications Expert) and Andréa Durighello (Fisheries Expert) travelled to Maputo, Mozambique for the third meeting of the MCSCC Operational Task Force (OTF) and Board of Director (BoD).
Both meetings took place consequently in Maputo, Mozambique. The meeting of the OTF took place on 13-14 October, gathering representatives from all MCSCC State Parties, the SADC Secretariat, as well as MCSCC’s financial and technical partners Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Stop Illegal Fishing (SIF), TMT and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). The meetings focussed on technical issues to advance the operationalisation of the MCSCC’s functions, building on progress achieved since the last OTF meeting in June 2024. Decisions and recommendations from the meeting were shared with the MCSCC BoD, which subsequently met on 15-17 October.
A key issue on the agenda of the BoD was the sustainability of the MCSCC, as the construction of the MCSCC building in Maputo is in its last steps and is about to be handed over to the Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The BoD also deliberated about the recruitment process of the MCSCC’s Executive Director, who is expected to assume its duties early 2026.
