FCWC 14th Session of the Conference of Ministers – fisheries management for a sustainable blue economy

January 2023 – Per Erik Bergh (CEO) attended the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) 14th Session of the Conference of Ministers which took place in Accra, Ghana from the 11 to 13 January 2023.

The Ministers and representatives of the six FCWC Member States Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Togo attended this year’s meeting organized on the theme “Supporting effective fisheries management for a sustainable blue economy”.

A two-day technical meeting prepared issues for the Ministers including reviewing the past year’s results and agreeing a workplan and budget for the 2023/2024 period. The important issues for the coming year included development and  implementation of shared fisheries management plans, improved fisheries governance, implementation of the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA), and wider regional cooperation.
