Fisheries in food and nutrition security in the SADC region

March 2016 - A new report produced by NFDS Africa details the role of fisheries in food and nutrition security in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. The study commissioned by the Centre for Coordination of Agricultural Research and Development for Southern Africa (CCARDESA) provides information on: food and nutrition security globally and in the SADC region; the role of fisheries in food and nutrition security; fisheries production and consumption; details and a comparison of fisheries and food nutrition security across the region; the challenges and opportunities faced in small-scale fish farming and consumption; case studies of the role of small scale inland aquaculture and consumption; and finally the report concludes with a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis and recommendations for future research.

The study was carried out by Ms Sandy Davies as a CCARDESA Research Associate with support from Sally Frankcom, Mathew Markides, Kosakosa Mukosa, Mark Ssemakula and James Tsou-Wong.
