New report: Regional Cooperation to Stop Illegal Fishing

July 2021 — A new report written by Stop Illegal Fishing, ‘Regional Cooperation to Stop Illegal Fishing: A Tale of Two Task Forces’, tells the story of the development and operations of two regional task forces and how they made a difference to stopping illegal fishing.

Published in cooperation with the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea and Trygg Mat Tracking, the report charts the development of the FISH-i Africa and West Africa Task Forces. By examining their regional contexts, establishment, operation, and success the report provides an insight into the how, why, what and who of regional cooperation.

NFDS has been a key partner in both task forces, with its role as lead coordinator of FISH-i and key technical and coordination team member during the initial funding phase of the West Africa Task Force.

Per Erik Bergh, NFDS CEO, stated, “This reports a timely reflection of the value of regional cooperation. We hope that this provides a useful tool for other regions who may be looking to build their own task force, or those looking to improve regional cooperation.”
