Second Meeting of the SADC Technical Team on the Fisheries Monitoring, Control and Surveillance Coordination Centre

July 2019 — Per Erik Bergh (Chief Executive Officer) represented Stop Illegal Fishing at the Second Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Technical Team on the Fisheries Monitoring, Control and Surveillance Coordination Centre (MCSCC), held in Gaborone, Botswana on 22-24 July 2019.

The SADC Secretariat, the MCSCC Interim Project Management Unit (IPMU), representatives from Member States as well as partners WWF and Stop Illegal Fishing participated in the meeting. Main points for discussion included a review of progress in implementing the SADC Regional Plan of Action to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate IUU fishing, which includes the operationalization of the SADC MCSCC. Discussion on the way forward and validation of the IPMU/MCSCC Roadmap and the roadmap including the proposed collaboration between MCSCC and FISH-i Africa
