Supporting implementation of the PSMA in Mozambique

April and May 2019 — Per Erik Bergh (CEO), Sandy Davies (Technical Director) and JD Kotze (Expert Investigator) have started working with the Ministry of Fisheries in Mozambique on a Stop Illegal Fishing project to support the implementation of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA).

Stop Illegal Fishing is working closely with the FAO Global Capacity Development Programme for the PSMA to implement a capacity building project financed by the GIZ and commissioned by the Federal Republic of Germany over a period of four years.

Support through this work will focus on:

  • Reviewing national legislative frameworks for PSMA readiness
  • Supporting national interagency cooperation
  • Developing human and institutional capacity
  • Building awareness of the role and value of the PSMA
  • Developing tools and mechanisms to enable effective PSM
